In this episode, my guest Dr. Maxine Bradshaw from last week shares Part 2 of her immigrant story.

Dr. Maxine A. Bradshaw is a Certified Trauma Professional and EQI Coach. She graduated from the University of the West Indies with a BSc. in Business with Upper-Class Honors and from Howard University where she earned a Master of Arts in Business Administration (MBA), a Master of Education in Counseling (M.Ed.), and a Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology.

She is also an Author and Motivational Speaker. Dr. Bradshaw is the recipient of the 2020–2021 Global Forum of Education and Learning (GFEL) Top 100 Leaders in Education Award in the category of Mental Health and Wellness.

In this episode, Dr. Bradshaw and I discussed:

  • Practicing gratitude
  • Institutions and resources immigrants can check out if they need help
  • Her insights on what she knows now that she wished she had known before she started her immigrant journey
  • How she overcame the stereotype of being black, a woman, and an immigrant successfully
  • Advice and some tips on self-care

Below is the list of institutions that Dr. Bradshaw mentioned in this episode. Please check these out if you need help.

  1. National Alliance on mental illnesses (NAMI) - https://nami.org/Home

NAMI provides crisis intervention, educational, and mental health resources.

  1. Immigrants Rising - https://immigrantsrising.org/

They offer mental health support, especially for undocumented immigrants

  1. warmline.org - A warmline is a peer-run listening line staffed by people in mental health recovery themselves.
  2. Catholic charities – they offer legal and mental health resources
  3. Charity care in hospitals. All hospitals have social work divisions and they provide mental health and final resources as well.
