Alec Yuzhbabenko is a Design Architect and an Associate Design Principal with Hanbury Architects currently residing in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Alec graduated Summa Cum Laude from Virginia Tech with a Bachelor’s in Architecture. Alec’s passion and creativity as a Designer has received recognition on a regional and national level. Alec has been noted for his collaborative spirit and constant pursuit for challenge and excellence in articles and press interviews. His thinking challenges the status-quo with innovative and socially sustainable ideas.
No doubt his work and demeanor are shaped by his background. Alec came to the United States from Odessa, Ukraine as a child. Adapting to a new language, culture and societal norms instilled a familiarity with discomfort and a curiosity for what he doesn’t yet know. As a professional these qualities are evidenced in how Alec questions the status quo, investigates and innovates in his problem solving. In the posture of a consummate team member, he brings a broad spectrum of skills to the design table—-architectural design, graphic design, presentation, communication, and more.
For Alec, creative thinking happens on numerous levels simultaneously. Alec measures success by the positive impression he leaves. His contributions to the profession and the industry exceed his years. His humble appreciation for his mentors’ gifts of advice and direction inspires his proactive efforts to pass this mentorship forward – engaging with students at colleges and universities through design critiques, knowledge-sharing workshops and public lectures and seminars. This ethos is also reflected in Alec’s work. Because the spaces and places designed by architects leave long-lasting impacts on people and communities, Alec approaches design with great care, thought and a priority on social sustainability. As a result, his designs are beloved by those who use them.
